The outward display of abusive behavior is indicative of internal toxic thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. Harmful elements of power and control lurk under the surface along with covert forms of abuse that not everyone is familiar with. The covert forms of abuse may be dismissed or ignored, rather than being recognized for the role they play in bolstering the more visible forms of abuse.
